Gumbo

Serve your friends this traditional Louisiana favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 (16 oz.) packages frozen Pictsweet Farms Vegetables for Gumbo
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 teaspoons Creole seasoning
  • 2 cups Andouille sausage, sliced and quartered
  • 2 cups rice, prepared
  • hot sauce (optional)

Directions

  1. HEAT oil in a large Dutch oven until hot but not smoking. Sprinkle flour over oil and whisk together until well blended.
  2. ADD butter and reduce heat to medium. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until mixture reaches a dark brown color.
  3. PLACE broth, water, frozen vegetables, garlic powder, Creole seasoning and sausage in the pot. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes.
  4. REDUCE heat to simmer for 20 minutes. Add rice and cook an additional 5-10 minutes.
